About the Foundation
Remember when you were on the playground
as a kid and you went to kick the ball but somehow slipped up and missed
completely? The disappointment? The shame? But once in awhile, on a
rare lucky day, the kids you were playing with would yell, “Do-over!”
and you’d get a chance – a second chance – to try
again.
We created The “Do-Overs” Foundation because sometimes grown-ups
need a “do-over” too. The purpose of our organization is
to foster hope and help people transform their lives. The foundation
offers a program, namely a series of steps which the subject helps to
create, in order to assist him or her in experiencing a successful life
transformation. These steps include:
- Gathering community volunteers to help enact
and support a
major change in the subject’s life
- Participating in life coaching
- Learning goal-setting skills
- Creating a life plan so the subject
can continue to move forward
Pilot Project: "Let the Sun Shine In"
We are well underway on our foundation’s pilot project, called
“Let the Sun Shine In”. We have assisted our first subject,
Angela, a mother of three children who recently found the courage to
end her marriage to her chronically depressed, emotionally abusive husband.
She is a perfect candidate for our program because she had already shown
her willingness to help herself and had enacted changes to make a better
life for her kids before we even entered the picture. She has been seeing
a registered counselor for over 24 months and has worked hard over the
past year to get her financial situation in order and pay off debts.
She had begun trying to figure out who she was without her spouse’s
negative interference, but found it too difficult because she was still
surrounded and overwhelmed by the chaos of a house filled with extreme
clutter and serious disrepair.
That’s when The “Do-Overs” Foundation came in –
we raised funds, organized a wide variety of volunteers including friends,
family and community members, and solicited discounts and donations
from local businesses. Angela’s home has now received repair work,
new carpets, new paint, furniture, yard clean-up and interior decoration.
Angela and her children assisted with the labor, participated in counseling
and goal-setting exercises and has agreed to nominate and help lead
a future “Do-Over” event for another person. Now that the
"home improvement" part of our pilot project is complete,
Angela now has a clean, fresh place in which to begin to heal, grow
and achieve her dreams!
